Our Story
We are Carl and Tina Shepherd. We have been married 36 years and have 3 wonderful children, Emily, Elizabeth and Will.
Carl has been a true craftsman in the stone industry since 1980. He traveled throughout the Southeast building commercial buildings until 1993. Carl managed and constructed many large projects such as, The Harbert Center and The Wells Fargo Tower, Birmingham, AL; The Bank of America Plaza and 191 Peachtree Tower, Atlanta, GA; The Durham Centre, Durham, NC; and The Duke Energy Center, Raleigh, NC just to name a few.
We started our family in 1991 and saw the need to get Carl off of the road. It was at that time we took a leap of faith and created Marble Specialties, Inc. Soon after the inception of Marble Specialties Tina retired from BellSouth in order to be at home to raise our children and assist in the daily management of the business.
We have been blessed to be able to serve Alabama and the Birmingham area, primarily residential, for 22 years. As our name states, we specialize in marble and all other natural stones, but also work with porcelain, ceramic, glass, and other man-made products.
